Human connections valued in today's complex world

On Saturday the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram printed a column I wrote talking about being reminded time and again while in China of the importance of human relationships even in today's complex world.

Whether we were talking with our alumni, university administrators or the president of 3M China, we heard from them about the value of personal relationships and the importance of people across the world understanding one another.

I was especially touched by the many moving stories we heard from our Chinese alumni about the meaningful relationships they made on our campus and in the Eau Claire community during their years as students here. While our alumni value the education they received here, they treasure their memories of meals and holidays shared with area families and time spent on campus with new friends.

As we go about our busy lives in this very busy time of the semester, let's not lose sight of the importance of nurturing our connections with one another.
